John R. Gastineau

John R. Gastineau practices in the areas of insurance defense, worker's compensation defense, personal injury, general civil litigation, local government law, and copyright and trademark matters. In addition to his experience with a wide variety of first-party and third-party cases on behalf of insurance companies and their insureds, Mr. Gastineau has been extensively involved in assisting local governmental entities in the planning, financing, and regulation of public works and school building projects as well as employee relations in school corporations. He had also represented local governments in defense of intentional torts claims.

Mr. Gastineau graduated cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, in 1992. During law school, he was the editor-in-chief of the Indiana Law Journal in 1991-1992 and wrote "Bent Fish: Issues of Ownership in Digital Images," which was published in the Fall 1991 issue of the Indiana Law Journal.

Mr. Gastineau is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the Michigan State Bar Association, the Allen County, Indiana, Bar Association, and the LaGrange County, Indiana, Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the courts of both Indiana and Michigan, as well as the federal courts of both the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.

Before he attended law school, Mr. Gastineau worked as an editor, reporter, and photographer for newspapers in Indiana and New York and as an editor and editorial director of book publishers with offices in Indianapolis, New York, and California. Mr. Gastineau received a bachelor's degree in English cum laude from Wabash College in 1973. His education and his experience as a writer and editor prior to law school have provided him with a solid foundation for the motion and appellate practice that makes up much of his caseload. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Ballet.
